Theater has always been a part of my life and children's emotions have always captivated me, so coupling the two of them just seemed right. I fell in love with Theater for Young Audiences (TYA) and Theater for the Very Young (TVY) a little under a decade ago. Not only was I in awe of what I was witnessing onstage, I found myself fascinated by the impact it had on the audience around me—hundreds of kids sitting, staring at the magic that was unfolding before them. They were experiencing music, puppetry, and dance for the very first time. Their lives changed forever and probably for the better. Those moments are absolutely magical, and being able to document them is what drives my passion for TYA and TVY photography.
Children are truly the most honest, expressive and open-minded audience members, and I get to photograph that for a living! Here, I showcase moments that left audiences exploring, connecting and yearning for more during productions created by Trusty Sidekick Theater Company, Spellbound Theatre, and Bluelaces Theater Company.
